Dr. Lori Sundberg who was a first generation Carl Sandburg College student wants to extend that opportunity to others.
The Carl Sandburg College President and her husband Rick have announced the $10,000 Sundberg Endowment Scholarship for Sandburg students.
To be eligible students must live within Sandburg District 518, have a 2.0 grade point average and be a first-generation college student.
A “significant portion” of Sandburg students are first generation according to a Sandburg news release.
Rick says he and Lori wanted to help students now and in the future.
He says, “It’s a great feeling that future Sandburg students will have the assistance they need to achieve a college degree.”
The scholarship won’t be available until the 2017-18 school year, however the window to apply for next year is Dec. 1, 2016 to March 15, 2017.
Lori Sundberg became Carl Sandburg College’s president in 2011.
