Thursday, March 26th, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos announced that health centers across the region will receive a total of $336,099 in federal funding to combat the coronavirus. The federal grants were awarded through the Department of Health and Human Services. They are in direct response to the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplement Appropriations Act of 2020. Bustos helped pass the act earlier this month. Health centers receiving funding include the Knox County Health Department with $54,450, the Henderson County Rural Health Center with $53,495, and the Heartland Community Health Clinic in Peoria with $65,787. In a statement, Bustos said, “During this critical time, it is essential that health centers have access to the resources they need to combat the coronavirus and serve our communities.” She added that “our health care professionals are on the front lines facing this threat and they need our support as they continue to fight this battle.”
